“Just wanted to say thank you for all of your work getting us a great RV! Your service center staff were really helpful also. We went straight to Almanor and spent 2 nights. Everything seems to be working fine and I really love the floor-plan! Hopefully we’ll get a little more “RV” time in before the end of the season. We will keep in touch. Thank you again!”

“We purchased a 2006 Fleetwood Prowler, 27′ and anytime we had to have any repairs on it we bring it to your service department. Service is outstanding!”

RV Driving Tips

How to Avoid Insurance Nightmares

rv-mirrorsAre you a first time RV buyer afraid of the unknown? There are many things to consider before buying an RV, but one of the major things that people rarely consider is just how much different driving an RV can be. Driving an RV does take some getting used to, and most people wouldn’t recommend taking a trip without a little practice first. Here are some RV driving tips that will hopefully prevent this from happening.

1. Turns Are More Difficult

Because an RV is longer, wider, and taller than most other vehicles, turning can be a challenge, especially in tight quarters. One of the most common insurance claims among RVs is hitting objects while turning. Whether it be taking turns to tight or running into islands or poles at gas stations, turns need to be practiced.

The most pivotal thing to remember when turning towards an object is to watch your pivot point. (See what I did there?) The pivot point is the center of the rear axle. Turning before the pivot point will result in bad things for your RV. If you want to avoid objects, make sure your pivot point is clear of the object before completing the turn.

2. Going up Inclines Calls for more Attention

Watch for Inclines RVs can not be treated like cars in some instances. When going up mountains or inclines for a long period of time, special attention is needed to make sure you arrive at your destination safely. When climbing long inclines it is important to adjust your gearing.

This allows you to remain in a comfortable RPM range that is easy for your engine to accommodate. You don’t have to take it fast up a mountain, and if you do, you could pay the price.

A common theme in driving RVs is to take your time and to get to your destination safely. RVs aren’t built for speed, and you shouldn’t expect them to be capable of doing the same things cars can.

3. Wind can Push you Around

The bigger your car is, the more you have likely had to deal with windy conditions while driving. An RV can be especially vulnerable in high wind situations. To counteract winds, you should drastically reduce your speed until you feel like you have complete control over your vehicle. You should continue at a low speed until you can find a safe place to get off the road. If you let wind pummel your RV for too long, it could lead to unpredictable results, even if the RV is parked.
